Questions

Common questions about OTB Remedia.

What is OTB Remedia?

OTB Remedia is the coated-mineral division of OTB Materials (Outside The Box Materials) in New Freedom, PA. It makes four specialty grades: Remedia-O for oil capture on solid ground, Remedia-H for water repellency, Remedia-F for oil-water separation in industrial filtration, and Remedia-X, a floating pellet for waterborne oil spills.

What should I use for an oil spill on a floor or on land?

Remedia-O. Pour or broadcast it onto spilled oil on pavement, soil, or plant floors. It holds the oil so it can be swept, shoveled, or vacuumed, and the mineral grains do not blow around the way light loose sorbents do in drafty bays and outdoor work areas.

What should I use for an oil spill on water?

Remedia-X, a floating pellet that stays on the surface with the slick. It is for waterborne oil spills only. It is not a land sorbent and not a filter bed.

Can Remedia separate oil from water in a process stream?

Yes. Remedia-F is mineral filter media that separates oil from water in continuous industrial process streams. It is built for plant duty, not for one-time spill cleanup.

What is Remedia-H, and how is it different from ordinary sand?

Remedia-H is a water-repellent coated mineral. Water beads and runs off its surface, while ordinary sand gets wet and soaks the water into the pile. It is used for sandbags and flood control, foundation backfill, termite barriers, and agricultural berms.

Can Remedia-H replace sandbag fill for flood control?

Yes. Remedia-H is a drop-in replacement for conventional sandbag fill. The contents stay dry inside the bag, including with coastal salt-water exposure, so the barrier can be moved and reused the next day instead of waiting to dry out.

How much recycled content is in Remedia products?

Remedia-O, Remedia-H, and Remedia-F are 95% recycled. Remedia-X is 100% recycled.

Are Remedia products patented?

Each of the four Remedia grades is patent pending.

How do I buy Remedia or talk to someone about my application?

Contact OTB Materials at info@otbmaterials.com or (800) 935-6796 and say which grade you are evaluating: O, H, F, or X.
